Sony's PlayStation 5, the latest generation of its gaming console, has been a global hit since its release in November 2020, selling more than 40 million units since launch. However, some gamers are already eager to see what the next iteration of the PS5 will offer. According to some rumours and leaks, it could be a more robust and advanced model called the PS5 Pro or its supposed codename, Project Trinity. The outlet Key To Gaming recently published an article claiming exclusive details from an anonymous developer who has worked on Sony's projects.

The article (corroborated by Tom Henderson) reveals some of the performance targets for the PS5 Pro, such as improved frames per second (FPS) as well as better FPS stability performance at 4K resolution, an 8K "performance mode", and accelerated ray tracing. The article also claims that the PS5 Pro will feature 18,000 MT/s memory and 30 WGP (workgroup processor), which are technical specifications that indicate how fast and efficiently the console can process data.

Sony does not officially confirm the PS5 Pro or Project Trinity, but some sources claim it is in the works. One is Tom Henderson, an insider who has accurately revealed information about Sony's hardware plans. Henderson reported that the PS5 Pro is "100% in development" and that development kits could be shipped out this year.

Henderson also predicted that the PS5 Pro will launch in November 2024. This would follow the pattern of the PS4 and the PS4 Pro, released three years apart in 2013 and 2016.

The article also states that the PS5 Pro will have upgraded internal components, such as a future generation of AMD's processors based on the Zen 4 architecture for CPUs and the RDNA 3 architecture for GPUs. These would enable the PS5 Pro to support 8K gaming, which is currently impossible on the standard PS5. The PS5 Pro could also have more RAM and storage space to handle the increased demands of higher-resolution games.

The PS5 Pro could also have a visual redesign, with a slimmer or sleeker shape than the bulky and curved PS5. Price-wise, the PS5 Pro is already expected to be more expensive than the standard PS5, which currently costs £479 for the disc version and £389 for the digital version. Some estimates suggest the PS5 Pro could cost around £600.

Of course, these are all rumours and speculations, and Sony has not officially announced or confirmed anything about the PS5 Pro. Sony may skip the PS5 Pro and focus on developing the next-generation PlayStation console, which is expected to arrive in 2027. It is also possible that Sony will need help in producing enough units of the PS5 Pro due to the ongoing chip shortage in the tech world.

For now, gamers who are fortunate enough to own a PS5 can enjoy its impressive features and games, such as its fast SSD, adaptive triggers, 3D audio, ray tracing, and exclusive titles like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, Demon's Souls, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The PS5 also has some upcoming games to look forward to, such as Spider-Man 2, launching this October.
