8BitDo celebrates 30 years of Tomb Raider with a special edition of its Ultimate 3 Controller for Xbox, featuring a Lara Croft-inspired design, advanced TMR joysticks, Hall Effect triggers, and a wireless charging dock.
The officially licensed controller pays tribute to one of gaming's most iconic franchises while offering features designed for modern players. With anniversary-themed styling, customisable controls, and multiple connectivity options, the Ultimate 3 Tomb Raider 30th Anniversary Edition targets both long-time fans and players looking to upgrade their setup.
Set to launch on 13 November 2026, the controller will be available on Amazon UK for £94.99.
A Special Edition Celebrating 30 Years of Tomb Raider
Since its debut in 1996, Tomb Raider has become one of gaming's most recognisable franchises, with Lara Croft taking players on adventures through ancient ruins, forgotten tombs and mysterious locations around the world.
To mark the franchise's 30th anniversary, 8BitDo has given its Ultimate 3 Controller for Xbox a special Tomb Raider makeover, combining a collectable design with the functionality expected of a premium gaming controller.
Rather than just offering a themed exterior, this anniversary edition adds advanced joystick technology, adjustable triggers, and extra programmable buttons, making it both a practical choice for everyday gaming and a commemorative release.
Precision Controls with TMR Joysticks
One standout feature of the Ultimate 3 Controller is its Dual Force Ring TMR joystick system, which combines smooth, gliding movement with adjustable stick tension.
TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) technology uses magnetic sensing to detect joystick movement without relying on the traditional contact-based sensors found in many standard controllers. This design can help reduce mechanical wear associated with conventional potentiometer joysticks.
The adjustable tension also lets players fine-tune the sticks' feel to suit their preferences, whether they're exploring environments, navigating challenging platforming sections, or playing fast-paced competitive games.
The controller also features Hall Effect impulse triggers with two trigger stops, giving players greater flexibility over trigger travel. This lets players switch between different trigger responses depending on the game.
Extra Buttons and Customisable Controls
For players who want more control over their gaming experience, the Ultimate 3 includes two pro-level back buttons alongside additional L4 and R4 bumpers.
These extra inputs offer more options for mapping frequently used actions, potentially reducing the need to move thumbs off the joysticks during gameplay.
8BitDo Ultimate Software X and Ultimate Software V2 Mobile support customisation, letting players adjust compatible controller settings to suit their preferred playstyle.
The controller also includes six-axis motion control for PC gaming, with motion inputs mappable to the left or right joystick. This feature is exclusive to PC and isn't supported on Xbox consoles.
Wireless Connectivity and Charging Dock
The Tomb Raider 30th Anniversary Edition offers several ways to connect across supported platforms.
Players can use 2.4GHz wireless or wired connectivity on Xbox and PC, while Bluetooth supports mobile devices.
On PC, the controller supports a polling rate of up to 1000Hz, allowing frequent input reporting in a compatible configuration. However, this feature is not supported on Xbox consoles.
The controller also includes an integrated wireless charging dock, providing a convenient place to store and recharge it between gaming sessions.
For those who prefer wired audio, a built-in 3.5mm audio jack provides an additional connection option for compatible headsets.
Comfort hasn't been overlooked either, with an improved grip design that makes the controller more comfortable during longer gaming sessions.

Release Date and UK Price
The 8BitDo Ultimate 3 Controller for Xbox Tomb Raider 30th Anniversary Edition launches on 13 November 2026, with a UK retail price of £94.99 through Amazon UK.
As an officially licensed Xbox controller celebrating a major Tomb Raider milestone, this edition is likely to appeal to Lara Croft fans and players interested in its advanced hardware and customisation features.
A Collector's Controller with Modern Features
The Ultimate 3 Tomb Raider 30th Anniversary Edition offers more than a visual tribute to the franchise. With TMR joysticks, adjustable tension, Hall Effect triggers, extra buttons, and a dedicated charging dock, it brings a wide range of features to the Xbox controller market.
Its Xbox, PC, and mobile connectivity also makes it a versatile option for players who enjoy gaming across multiple devices. However, features such as 1000Hz polling and motion control remain PC-exclusive.
At £94.99, it's positioned as a premium controller. Still, the combination of anniversary styling and modern hardware could make it an attractive purchase for dedicated Tomb Raider fans.
As Lara Croft celebrates three decades of exploration and adventure, 8BitDo's latest special edition offers fans another way to commemorate Tomb Raider's legacy when it arrives this November.
