LEGO is expanding its Technic line once again with the upcoming LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 5023 with Crane (42242), a detailed off-road utility truck packed with mechanical features and functional play elements. Launching on June 1, 2026, the 1,189-piece set brings the rugged Mercedes-Benz Unimog to brick-built form, with a focus on engineering, realism, and hands-on interaction.
Designed for builders aged 11 and up, the model captures the unmistakable look of the Unimog U 5023 while incorporating working Technic systems that make it more than just a display piece.

A Functional Off-Road Workhorse
The real-world Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 5023 is known for its extreme off-road capability and versatile utility applications, and LEGO Technic has recreated many of those characteristics here.
The set includes steering, suspended axles and a working 4-wheel-drive system, giving the model a realistic mechanical foundation. Builders can also explore the 6-cylinder piston engine beneath the hood, while opening the doors adds another layer of authenticity to the finished vehicle.
The standout feature is the fully functional knuckle boom crane mounted to the rear of the truck. Using a pneumatic pump system, builders can raise, lower and position the crane to lift included cargo accessories such as the pallet. Fold-down outriggers help stabilise the vehicle during crane operation, closely mirroring how the real machine operates on work sites and rough terrain.
