Picking up the story at the end of the second film, Sarah Connor (Lena Headley) and her 15-year-old son John (Thomas Dekker), once again beset by Terminators, decide to put all their efforts into stopping the creation of Skynet. Along the way they meet up with Cameron (Summer Glau), a Terminator sent from the future to protect John (sound familiar?) while posing as a student at his school. Relentlessly pursued by another Terminator named Cromartie (Garret Dillahunt), the trio desperately fights to remain one step ahead. All the while as they try to stay alive, their movements are being tracked by FBI agent James Ellison (Richard T. Jones), who singlemindedly pursues Sarah and John, believing them both to be mentally deranged.
